Where in the Studio · Overview › Steps

In the Creator Studio, the parts of an experience are in two places. The Experience menu on the left has the experience-wide pages. The Steps card on the Overview has the steps. This page is written for an Interactive experience, where a part is a step. Guided Tours call it a stop, and Audiobooks call it a chapter.

Finding your way around

The Experience menu
The menu on the left shows your experience. At the top, All experiences takes you back to your list. Below it are the cover, the name and the status. Click them to open the Overview. The entries are Overview and Analytics; under Store page: General Information, Gallery and Pricing; and under Setup: Voice Settings and Settings. The steps are not in this menu.
General Information
General Information has the name, the cover and the content of your experience. Use Edit content to change the content. Read General Information to learn more.
The Steps card
The Overview has the Steps card. This is the main place for your steps. Players go through the steps in the order you see here. Each row shows the number, a picture, the name and one line about what is in the step. Click a row to open the step.
Ready and To fix
Each row has a chip: Ready or To fix. A line above the list counts the steps and how many are To fix.
The map
The map shows the places of your Location steps as numbered pins, joined by a line in play order. A pin with a dashed outline is a place that players must find. A pin with a solid outline is shown on the map. Content steps and Challenge steps appear on the line between two places. A Location step without a place is not on the map. It is listed under Not on map.
Reorder the steps
Select Reorder. Drag a step, or move it with the arrows. Then select Save. You can only reorder on the Overview.
Many steps
With many steps, the list scrolls. You can search by name or number, and filter by To fix or by type.
Where To fix shows
A step is To fix when it is not complete yet. You see this in four places: in the summary line of the Steps card, for example 1 to fix; on the row of the step, as the chip; in the step menu, as an orange line and a round “!” mark; and in the header of the step page, as the chip with the first thing to do. The same chip on other pages shows what is missing in the whole experience. The card Before you submit on the Overview lists everything you must fix before you can submit.
The step menu
Click a step to open its page. The menu on the left then changes to the step menu. Overview takes you back. Below it is every step in play order, with its number, picture and name. Click a step to go to it. With more than 11 steps, you also get a search and the filters All and To fix.
Add and delete steps
The + next to Steps in the step menu adds a step. It opens the same window as Add step on the Overview. The ⋮ menu in the header of a step page has Delete step. The step menu does not move or delete steps.

Build order

This order works well for most experiences:

  1. Add your steps. Select Add step and pick the type (see Step types). Give the step a name. With Comes after, choose where it goes. By default it goes at the end, so you can add steps in play order.
  2. Reorder the steps on the Overview if needed. The first step is where the player starts.
  3. Fill in each step. Open it from the Overview or from the step menu. Read Location steps and stops, Content steps and chapters or Challenge steps. To write what players read, read Content editor. To add a voice, read Narration and voice.
  4. Fix every step that says To fix. Check the card Before you submit.
  5. Submit your experience for review.

Step types

When you add a step to an Interactive experience, you choose one of three types. Pick the type by what the players do in that step.

Which format uses which type

Interactive
All three types. Mix them in any order.
Guided Tours
Location steps only. The Studio calls them stops. You do not choose a type.
Audiobooks
Content steps only. The Studio calls them chapters. You do not choose a type.
