Narration and voice
The spoken audio of your experience. Create it from your text with an AI voice, or upload your own recording.
A narration is the audio that players listen to in the app. The Voice Settings page sets the voice. The narration strip, at the top of the panel in the content editor, creates and updates the narration.
Choose the voice
Choose a voice before you create a narration from text. You choose it once for the whole experience, and every narration uses it. You do not need a voice for your own recordings. The list shows only voices in the language of your experience.
Open the page in one of these ways:
- Open Voice Settings under Setup in the side menu.
- Select Voice Settings on the Overview page.
- Select Choose voice on the narration strip.
- In Select Locale, choose the regional version of the language of your experience. For example, de-DE.
- In Select Voice, choose a voice.
- Under Preview, the field Example holds a sample sentence. You can change it. It can have up to 160 characters. Select Listen to hear the voice.
- Select Save. A dialog says: The voice cannot be changed later. Select Save Permanently to confirm.
Create a narration from text
The narration strip shows the state of the narration. You find it in these places:
- The content of the experience: General Information, then Edit content
- A Content step
- The tab 2 · At the location of a Location step
- The intro of a Challenge step
Challenge tasks have no narration.
The narration reads the text of all Text sections, in order. It does not read Image or Carousel sections.
- Write your text and select Save.
- On the narration strip, select Create narration.
- The dialog Create a narration? shows your allowance. Select Create narration to confirm.
If you can’t select the button, the strip tells you why:
- Save your changes first
- Save the page, then try again.
- “No narration yet · no text to read”
- Add a Text section.
- “No narration yet · no voice chosen”
- Select Choose voice. The button takes you to Voice Settings.
If the narration fails, the strip shows The narration could not be created. Players keep reading the text. Select Try again.
Update a narration that is out of date
You can change the text after you create a narration. Then the strip shows Narration is out of date. The old narration still plays. Saving your text never creates a new narration by itself.
- Select Update narration.
- In the dialog Update the narration?, check your allowance. Select Update narration to confirm.
If the update fails, the strip shows The narration could not be updated. Players keep the old narration. Select Try again.
Use your own recording
Select Upload recording on the narration strip and choose an audio file. The file can have up to 15 MB. You do not need a voice for a recording.
The strip then shows Own recording. A recording is never out of date, even if you change the text. Two actions are then available. Both ask you to confirm first:
- Replace recording
- Upload a new file. The old recording is removed and you can’t restore it.
- Create from text instead
- Remove your recording and create a narration from the text. This needs a voice and enough allowance.
Know your allowance
Each creator can turn up to 30,000 characters of text into narration in 30 days. The allowance covers all your experiences. A narration that fails does not use any characters.
The dialogs for creating and updating show Narration allowance. There you see how many characters you have left, and how many characters this narration uses. They also show the date when more characters free up.
